The Open Science at Web-Scale Report was commissioned by the JISC and published in November 2009 by UKOLN/Digital Curation Centre. It is positioned as a consultative piece which explores aspects of open data and open science and how institutions might respond to these developing trends. There are also a number of more recent International Keynote presentations available, which have built on the contents of the Report.

Six challenges are raised: 1. Scale, Complexity and Predictive Potential, 2. Continuum of Openness, 3. Citizen Science, 4. Credentials, Incentives and Rewards, 5. Institutional Readiness and Response and 6. Data Informatics Capacity and Capability. Each challenge has a series of questions to prompt further thought and discussion amongst the wider community, and to fuel the open science debate on the global stage.

Many of the issues raised require further articulation and investigation: this Report represents a synthesis of themes, activities and reflections, to catalyse reaction and inform future policy, programmes and investment in open science.
